Presenting Punta Gorda

The camera hasn’t been out much since I arrived back in Canada. For us northerners at least, pictures of snowy streets soon lose their excitement. But here's a picture of home in Cobourg Anyway. For the past week temperatures have been hovering around zero Celsius but the snow remains.

Three churches have invited me to share my Belizean experiences with them so I’ve been putting together a short (25 minute) slide presentation. Introducing a country, a congregation and a sixteen months visit in 25 minutes is a daunting task, but we try. The schedule so far is:
St. John’s, Port Hope – after the 10:30am service March 4
St. Matthew’s, Montreal – during the 10:30am service March 10
Christ Church, Bolton – at the 8am and 10am service April 29
There may well be more.

Kind friends and neighbours have been giving me rides in their cars and, with the local bus service, I’ve so far resisted buying a car of my own. It’s like giving up something for Lent – one month so far. I expect that once the fine weather comes and baseball starts I’ll be haunting the used car lots.

I've had a little contact with my friends in Punta Gorda but I’m finding responses to my requests for information and updates frustratingly slow or even non-existent. I know things move a little slower there, but guys……

For some of you this will be old news, but here is the link to a news report of a sermon by Canon Flowers of Belize City (appearing on pages 6 and 11). It will give you quite an insight into the society of Belize and the part the church can play in it. It is a PDF document for which you do need Adobe Reader.
