Nearing the End

Oh my! Another two months since my last blog. During that time I visited my old parish of St. John’s, Port Whitby to show slides and have a great time of reunion. That will probably be the last such event unless I get called to St. Mark’s, Port Hope.

So now it’s time to close up shop in regards to Stanley’s Mission. The main concern will be what to do with the small amount of cash we have on hand, thanks to the generosity of so many people. Today’s Scripture Union reading is from 2nd Corinthians: At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. Then there will be equality, as it is written: "He who gathered much did not have too much, and he who gathered little did not have too little."

I know that Holy Cross School on Ambergris Caye needs lots and lots of money. (http://www.holycrossbelize.org/July_10_07_progress.htm) Some of the money should probably go to the Rev. Paul Guiton’s fund to help girls attend high school in Punta Gorda. The difficulty in projects like his is often getting the right people on the spot to supervise such a program. Recently I’ve become aware of the Kiva Program that funnels donations of any size though local micro-financing organizations. (See link to the right.) It’s a plan that seems to be working, and perhaps some of our funds could go through them to Central America.
